The Emerging Sportech Opportunity

We attended the Global Carrier Billing and Mobile Payments Summit in Amsterdam two weeks ago. It took place in the Hotel nhow Amsterdam RAI and hosted over 150 attendees and 40 speakers. Again, Telecoming was a sponsor and leading company in the telecoms sector.

This year’s theme revolved around the growing importance of regulatory compliance and sustainability in taking the telecommunications sector to the next level. Regarding security, operators and service providers are increasingly required to adapt to evolving regional laws and apply self-regulation to build trust among the different users. Similarly, regarding the sustainability issue, stakeholders are exploring strategies to enhance the security of the customer journey, with a strong focus on anti-fraud measures and data protection.

During the first day of the event, Théophile Cassand (Regional Operations Director, FR+BE+CH) took part in a panel named Subscronomics: Recurring Payments in Europe is a $600 Billion a Year Industry – What Role Does Payment Tech Play in this Ecosystem? which explored the pivotal role that payment technology plays within this thriving ecosystem. An essential discussion for stakeholders looking to optimize their subscription-model strategies in one of Europe’s most dynamic financial sectors. As Théophile Cassand highlights, “advanced payment technologies and the widespread use of smartphones are driving the growth of subscronomics.”

That same day, Mohamed Benhamadi (our Managing Director—Business Development) presented the Collaborative Report Showcase More Than Just a Number: Ten Ways to Optimize the Customer Experience, which was created in collaboration with the Mobile Ecosystem Forum.Customer experience is key to retaining customers in the funnel and encouraging them to identify with brand values” explained Mohamed Benhamadi.

Finally, the following day, Ali Karaosman (Regional Operations Director, MEA & ZA) participated in another panel discussion about mobile gaming called State of the Industry Yearbook Launch: Mobile Gaming. The mobile gaming industry is projected to reach US$164.8 billion by 2029, which makes it a hot topic in the telecom industry. The panel focused on two main issues: the transition from Hyper-Casual to Hybrid-Casual Games and the rise of mobile cloud gaming through 5G.

The advent of 5G technology and advancements in mobile network infrastructure are fundamental to the growth of cloud gaming on mobile devices. 5G offers significantly faster download and upload speeds, lower latency, and more stable connections than 4G networks. This makes real-time, responsive gaming via the cloud more feasible on mobile devices.

“The Global Carrier Billing and Mobile Payments Summit is the perfect opportunity to meet the industry’s stakeholders. It allows us to establish valuable synergies with potential partners, as well as strengthening ties with the already existing ones.”

An expert in consulting and business development, Michelle has specialized in gamification and digital brand strategy. During the discussion, Michelle aported key insights on the field of mobile gaming.

The growth of e-commerce is creating new opportunities for carrier billing. As more people shop online, carrier billing can be a convenient and secure way to purchase goods and services. The growth of subscronomics is another trend to boost DCB. This payment tech can be a convenient way for users to pay for any subscription.

See you next year! 👋
